For my Dad, Tobias A. Terrell

I've come to learn with time how much you sacrificed in happiness to be my Father. You dreamed many dreams that slipped through your fingers and soon felt improbable, eventually impossible. Your time on Earth showed you few kindnesses and took more than it gave. I see you not as the man who raised and loved me, but the little boy who wanted to be a Pediatrician. And the scared, dejected young man who was never given a chance to try.

You were never able to reach the mountains you set to climb, but you raised me up so I had a chance at mine. And for that, I am thankful.

I miss you always and I choose to live my life in honor of your sacrifice each day.

“The obligation of anyone who thinks of himself as responsible is to examine society and try to change it and to fight it — at no matter what risk. This is the only hope society has. This is the only way societies change.”
